One hundred years ago, the first group of Salvation Army Donut Girls set sail for France to aid soldiers on the front lines of WWI. After just a few weeks, they were serving nearly 9,000 doughnuts every day. They continued to deliver the tasty treats amidst gunfire and bombs through WWI and WWII, simply to give soldiers a small token of hope and home. The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit proudly salutes the Donut Girls bravery and compassion on the 100th anniversary of their founding this year.
