SUMMARY:New Exhibit - Cold War Fallout Shelters
DESCRIPTION:New Exhibit Opening April 6th!\nCold War Fallout Shelters\n\n\nThe film Oppenheimer depicts the people and plans as well as the production of the world’s first hydrogen bomb.\n\n\n\nAfter WWII\, the stockpiling of increasingly powerful nuclear weapons became the focus of both the U.S. and the Soviet Union\, despite the fear of citizens who had already witnessed sudden and massive loss of life due to governmental battles.\n\n\n\nMeasures of civil defense centered on this looming threat were undertaken to provide some degree of control by\, and for\, ordinary people. That included the dissemination of public education materials\, such as 1951’s “Duck and Cover” campaign featuring Bert the Turtle and the school-drill program of the same name.\n\n\n\nEmphasis was placed on the ability to survive nuclear detonation by taking the simplest of precautions.\n\n\nMichigan Military Technical & Historical Society\n16600 Stephens Rd\, Eastpointe (586-872-2581)\nwww.mimths.org and mimths@mimths.org\n
