SUMMARY:Art Exhibit "Occupied Spaces" at Anton Art Center
DESCRIPTION:Anton Art Center is proud to present Occupied Space\, opening on Saturday\, September 10\,\n2022. This exhibition features artworks by artists Laura Cavanagh and Chrissy Gordon. On\nSaturday\, September 17\, 2022 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm\, the Anton Art Center is hosting an\nOpening Reception and Artist Talk event with both Laura Cavanagh and Chrissy Gordon\, in-\nperson at the Anton Art Center; this event is free and open to the public. The collaborative\nexhibit will be on display in the Main Floor Galleries at the Anton Art Center through October 13\,\n2022. \nThe exhibition will present a collection of original paintings from each artist. Self-described\nintroverts by nature\, Cavanagh and Gordon have long studied their personal surroundings.\nTheir explorations of quiet\, intimate spaces\, and moments in time\, have been critical to\nunderstanding their respective selves and finding ways to remain present amidst the noise.\nCavanagh and Gordon encounter these spaces both in and out doors\, and they employ light\nand color to capture their emotional state relevant to the space. \nThe artists share that they are especially influenced by the architecture of a space\, and find that\nby breaking down the architectural elements into bold blocks of color\, they are able to create a\ndistinct atmosphere of still quietude\, so critical for self- reflection and creativity. Both Cavanagh\nand Gordon work with oil and chalk pastel\, and Gordon utilizes oil paint and monotype to\ncapture the intangible state of being present. The tactile quality of the different mediums allows\nthe artists to make tangible that which is fleeting and transitory.
